Assistant Director

The New Britain Public Library seeks a dynamic, energetic and innovative individual to assist the Library Director in the administration of the library, performing administrative, supervisory, facility management and budgetary functions for service areas and operations. 

Required qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited institution; 4 years progressively responsible administrative experience; supervisory experience, budget management expertise; building management, involvement in grant writing; creative approach to library planning, knowledge of library trends and technology, strong commitment to customer service, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to relate well to the public and library staff.

Title & Classification: Clerk I - Teen Room (20 hours)
Adult Services Department

Reports to: Teen Librarian I

Starting Salary: $14.32 per hour

Position Description / Responsibilities: Performs a wide range of clerical/manual functions. Work involves frequent customer contact in person and by telephone and the use of computers. Position will cover public desk in Teen Room and in Tech Center. May be cross-trained to work in other positions within the department. Position description available on request.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Basic computer skills and keyboarding essential. Some experience working in a library or retail setting preferred. Proficiency in Spanish, Polish, or other locally prevalent language preferred.

Special Requirements: Schedules vary, but will include evening and Saturday hours. Position requires working with teens and adults of all ages and occasionally, children. This is an SEIU position.
