Open Position: Administrative Assistant

 

Open Date: September 12, 2019

Title/Classification: Administrative Assistant

Starting Salary:$40,000, depending on experience

Schedule: 37.5 Hours per week

Reports To: Assistant Director

Summary of Duties: Plans, organizes, and coordinates the work of the Administrative office. Performs operational and administrative functions such as bookkeeping, payroll, maintaining administrative files, processes vendor checks, bank deposits, and reconciliation of all accounts.  Assists with annual audit. Maintains personnel records, processes all benefits for employees.  Responsible for document management and retention schedules, manages room reservations for the staff and the public, including set-up requirements.  Provides support for the Board of Trustees which includes preparing documents and transcribing meetings.  Coordinates annual fundraising efforts.  Any duties as required by the Director or Assistant Director of the New Britain Public Library.

Qualifications: Two year college degree with two years of administrative experience.  Excellent oral and communication skills. Proficient computer skills required including internet, e-mail, Microsoft Office Suite, bookkeeping and spreadsheet applications

Open Position: Library Aide – Children’s or Circulation Department

Title: Library Aide – Children’s or Circulation Department

Classification:Library Aide

Starting Salary:$10.10 per hour (9 hours per week)  $11.00 as of October 1, 2019

Position fescription/ responsibilities: Performs simple repetitive tasks and other duties as assigned, such
as shelving materials and straighten stacks so that they are orderly and neat, in addition to other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Age 16 or older
High School diploma preferred (current student acceptable)
Keyboarding skill and computer literacy
Proficiency with letters and numbers
Accuracy and dependability
Good communications skills

Open Position: Children’s Librarian I – part-time

 

Open Date: October 2, 2019

Title/Classification: Children’s Librarian I – part-time

Starting Salary:$27,144.00

Schedule: Part-time (20 hours) position available that includes up to two evenings per week and alternate Fridays & Saturdays.

Summary of Duties: Responsible for both in-library and outreach programs and providing reference and reader’s advisory services. Participates in materials selection and collection maintenance. Reports to Manager of Children’s Services.

Additional: May be in charge in the absence of the Department Manager

Qualifications: MLS from ALA accredited school of library/information science; Public library experience in Children’s Services preferred. Computer literacy required; working knowledge of hardware preferred. Proficiency in Polish, Spanish, or another language prevalent in New Britain preferred. Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.

Demonstrated ability to work with children and excellent interpersonal skills in general; considerable knowledge of children’s literature and child development; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; ability
to interact with a wide variety of people.
