Open Position - Library Computer Technician

Open Date: March 26, 2019

Title: Library Computer Technician

Classification: Library Associate

Reports To: Technical Services

Starting Salary: $37,006.30

Schedule: Full-time position (37.5 hrs/wk)

Responsiblities: Operates the library’s automation and communications systems including the automated circulation system, LAN technology, WiFi, Internet access, anti-theft system, telephone, and telecommunications systems. Assists with the design and implementation of future automation needs of the Library. Installs and configures computer hardware and software. Responsible for updating inventory and reporting changes to the Technical Services Manager. Schedules and performs backups of public and staff PCs. Assists staff in use of software and computer-related tasks. Attends meetings and training courses as needed to remain current with changing technology. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications: A BA or BS degree and post-secondary training and/or experience, preferably 3 years in computer equipment and software systems. Strong knowledge of LAN technology and Windows environment. Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems, set up all
aspects of a computer including installation of software, hardware and peripheral troubleshooting, etc.

Open Position - Children's Librarian I - part time

Open Date: February 15, 2019

Title/Classification: Children's Librarian I - part time

Reports To: Manager of Children’s Services.

Starting Salary: $27,144.00

Schedule: Part-time position (20 hrs/wk) includes up to two evenings per week and alternate Fridays & Saturdays.

Summary of Duties: Responsibility for both in-library and outreach programs and providing reference and reader’s advisory services. Participates in materials selection and collection maintenance.

Additional: May be in charge in the absence of the Department Manager.

Qualifications: MLS from ALA accredited school of library/information science; Public library experience in Children’s Services preferred. Computer literacy required; working knowledge of hardware preferred. Proficiency
in Polish, Spanish, or another language prevalent in New Britain preferred. Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle.

Demonstrated ability to work with children and excellent interpersonal skills in general; considerable knowledge of children’s literature and child development; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; ability
to interact with a wide variety of people.

Open Position - Circulation Clerk I

Open Date: April 23, 2019

Title/Classification: Circulation Clerk I

Reports To: Circulation Supervisor

Starting Salary: $14.32 per hour

Schedule: 20 hours per week.

Summary of Duties: Friendly, customer service orientated person to work at public desk, offer assistance to patrons, circulate materials using computer system, answer routine questions, shelve materials, and perform other tasks as required. May be cross-trained to work at other service points within the department. Schedule includes at least one night per week and alternate Saturdays. This is an entry level position.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Proficient computer skills essential, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite. Some experience working in a library or retail setting preferred. Fluency in Spanish/Polish or other locally prevalent language preferred.

Title/Classification: Teen Room Clerk I

Reports To: Teen Librarian

Starting Salary: $14.32 per hour

Schedule: 20 hours per week.

Summary of Duties: Performs a wide range of clerical/manual functions. Work involves frequent customer contact in person and by telephone and the use of computers. Position will cover public desk in Teen Room. May be cross-trained to work at other service points within the department. Schedule includes at least one night per week and alternate Saturdays. This is an entry level position. Position description available on request.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Proficient computer skills essential, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite. Some experience working in a library or retail setting preferred. Fluency in Spanish/Polish or other locally prevalent language preferred.

Open Position - Programming Librarian I

Open Date: April 26, 2019

Title/Classification: Programming Librarian I

Reports To: Head of Adult Services

Starting Salary:$50,896.71

Schedule: Full-time position (37.5 hrs/wk) available that includes at least one evening per week and alternate Fridays & Saturdays.

Qualifications: A Masters in Library Science from an ALA accreditedprogram. Familiarity with adult services and literature with strong readers advisory skill. Strong technology skills, MS Office competency, social media skills, makerspace interest and community outreach. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, strong commitment to customer service. Ability to work with a wide variety of people. Public programming experience preferred. Spanish, Polish or other prevalent language proficiency desirable.

Responsibilities: Selection of adult non-fiction and collection maintenance. Performs reference and reader advisory services. Responsible for creating, publicizing, implementing, and tracking the results of adult programs under the supervision of the Head of Adult Services. Provides technology instruction. Interfaces with all other
departments to assure good communication and parallel marketing efforts library-wide. Additional duties include backup on various service points.
